B3 registers Options market records in 2026

Record trading volumes in equity options and Ibovespa options at B3 in January and February of 2026

The Equity Options (Single Stocks, ETFs and BDRs) and Ibovespa Options market accelerated significantly at the start of 2026 at Brazil’s exchange B3, with consecutive liquidity and trading volume records. This reflected the development of the ecosystem for risk management, portfolio protection and the execution of wide-ranging strategies.

The Weekly and Monthly Equity Options market ended 2025 on record ADTV of BRL 687 million (compared with BRL 658 million in 2022) at B3, with BRL 637 million in monthly Options and BRL 50 million in weekly Options.

The segment’s momentum continued into the first two months of 2026, with new maximums recorded both in monthly and in weekly expirations. Nonresidents led investor profiles, with 55% of financial volume, followed by individual investors at 30% and institutional investors at the remaining 15%.

“The recent records in Options reflect a structural change in the Brazilian market: investors are using derivatives more consistently and strategically, incorporating these instruments into risk management and to comprise portfolios, and not only in stress periods. The combination of greater liquidity, more expirations and the development of the entire ecosystem has been the motor behind this trend. The figures also clearly suggest increased sophistication whereby Options cease to be a niche product and come to play a central role across the gamut of investors’ strategies,”, says Renato Munhoz, Equity Derivatives manager at B3.

In February, Monthly Equity Options registered a historic record of BRL 1.2 billion average daily trading volume (ADTV), surpassing January, a month in which for the first time this class of derivative surpassed the BRL 1 billion mark.

There were also records in the case of weekly Equity Options in the first two months of the year: in January, ADTV reached BRL 113 million (compared with BRL 83 million in November 2025). In February, the maximums were repeated, with ADTV of BRL 138 million.

For both Monthly and Weekly Options, February 13 was a milestone: in total, Equity Options (Single Stocks, ETFs and BDRs) registered financial volume of BRL 2.7 billion (compared with BRL 1.9 billion on January 20, 2022), of which BRL 1.7 in monthly Options and BRL 1 billion in weekly Options — which on the same day also obtained a record financial volume.

Ibovespa Options also gain ground and reach a record

Ibovespa Options also registered a strong performance and on February 23 reached a financial volume record of BRL 1.6 billion, which was BRL 200 million over the previous record of BRL 1.4 billion of August 22, 2024. Accumulated over the two months, volumes were also high in the product: ADTV of BRL 242 million in January 2026 and BRL 335 million in February 2026 was far above the 2025 ADTV of BRL 94 million.
