Corporate Social Investment

As a company aligned with sustainability best practices and that encourages stakeholders to do the same, we also invest in initiatives aimed at promoting a more equitable society.

Through B3 Social, under the “S” pillar of the ESG framework, we act to reduce social inequality in Brazil. To address such a complex issue, B3 Social has studied national and global best practices in Corporate Social Investment and used it as input to build its own impact strategy, which is organized in three fronts:

1.

Grantmaking, where we fund nonprofit organizations that seek to improve public education and provide emergency funding in response to natural disasters.

2.

Employee Engagement, where we mobilize B3 employees to participate in social initiatives and campaigns.

3.

Promoting best practices, where we share experiences, tools and lessons learned with other companies, to accelerate their social development journey, while seeking greater collective impact.

Strategy

B3 Social’s utilizes the Venture Philanthropy strategy, which is centred on a personalized partnership that includes financial and non-financial support and implies investors make decisions based on measurable impact data and evidence.

Some examples of actions in our Venture Philanthropy strategyare:

Constant dialog with grantees to promote learning and development of social projects funded

Connections between grantees, partners and other funders to increase our network´s impact

Online and in-person training on relevant issues faced by the social sector

Personalized feedback for each funded project

This model seeks to guarantee high quality project implementation as well as strengthen the infrastructure, management and processes of funded organizations with the objective of making them financiallly sustainabile.

Grantmaking

As grantmakers, we use your knowledge and evidence-based metrics to select and fund social initiatives with a measurable impact. Funding can occur through direct donation or through tax incentives.

Our strategy prioritizes and supports high complexity projects that seek to improve Brazilian public education and that systematically reduce learning inequalities, in three main subject areas:

  1. Public Education
  2. Sports and Education
  3. Life and work Training

Given the urgent needs of vulnerable local communities, B3 Social also funds disaster relief projects across Brazil.

To build the grant portfolio, the B3 Social team follows a theory of change, which dictates our long-term objectives. The B3 Social team carries out annual prospecting, inviting organizations that have projects aligned with our impact strategy. These projects go through a careful selection process involving due diligence, interviews and submission of a detailed proposals containing evidence, impact targets, process indicators and a budget.

Annually, B3 Social donates more than BRL 50 million to social projects, in all of Brazil’s states.

The processes and tools described above are all available to be shared with institutions that want a better understanding of our grantmaking criteria and our selection and monitoring instruments.

Employee Engagement

B3 Social is also responsible for our volunteering program, which fosters individual philanthropy and mobilizes the B3 team to participate in social initiatives.

The initiatives are structured into four levels, in order of complexity, maturity and time dedication – so that people with different profiles and at different stages in their lives and careers can have the opportunity to participate. Examples of initiatives are: matchfunding campaigns, mentoring programs for youth, social consulting for nonprofit organizations and blood drives at B3, among others.

Through this strategy, every year over 50% of B3´s team takes part in initiatives and campaigns organized by B3 Social.

One factor that contributes to high participation in the employee engagement program is an incentive that B3 grants: at the company all employees may use up to two hours a month for social impact activities during working hours.

Our volunteering initiatives and strategies can be shared with companies that want to know about our employee engagement initiatives..
